South Fort Myers (Fort Myers, Fla.) snapped
Island Coast (Cape Coral, Fla.)'s 6-game winning streak, with a 41-17 victory on Saturday.
The two teams were tied at 10 heading into halftime. The Wolfpack took the lead for good on a
Jayron Kearse touchdown run with 11:00 remaining in the third quarter.
A 28-point third quarter helped South Fort Myers secure the big victory. SFM scored on a touchdown run by Kearse, a
Robert Brown touchdown run, a touchdown pass by
Andrew Dailidonis and a touchdown run in the quarter.
The Fort Myers school's standout player in the win was Dailidonis. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
The Gators'
Devon Calhoun played well. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Led by
Jayron Kearse, the Wolfpack came into the game allowing 5.0 points per game. The 17 points that Island Coast ended with were well below its average of 40.0 coming into the game. IC came in surrendering 16.0 points per game this season. The Cape Coral school struggled against South Fort Myers' offense, which entered the game scoring 35.0 points per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 14-7 win for SFM.
The loss comes after Island Coast defeated Bishop Verot 55-0 last week.
In a non-conference game next week South Fort Myers (9-0) takes on Charlotte, and Island Coast (6-2) will go up against Riverdale in a 6A District 11 game.
