After both having extra time off, the Hudson Cobras and the Dunedin Falcons will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hudson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, Hudson came up short against Pasco and fell 5-2. That's two games in a row now that the Cobras have lost by exactly three runs.
Hudson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesse Anderson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. That run was Anderson's first of the season.
While Dunedin didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Pinellas Park with a sharp 11-1 win last Thursday. Considering the Falcons have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cael Rogers and Abby McLemore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rogers pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, McLemore tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Rogers has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rogers scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while McLemore scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Dunedin let Maelaea Johnson and Lucy Bond run wild. Johnson scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Bond went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Avery Royer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Dunedin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Dunedin pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hudson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Hudson suffered a grim 19-2 defeat to Dunedin in their previous meeting back in March of 2020. Can Hudson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
