The Thurgood Marshall Cougars came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 63-20 win over Dunbar at home. Considering Thurgood Marshall has won four matches by more than 20 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Thurgood Marshall was led to victory by Samarra Gibson and Ma?kayla Williams. Gibson almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, nine assists, and 14 steals, while Williams dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least 25% of Thurgood Marshall's points. Another player making a difference was Morganne Postell, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Dunbar saw an underclassman step up: Zaria Ballard scored ten points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Ballard pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Thurgood Marshall pushed their record up to 4-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Dunbar, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thurgood Marshall won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Harvest Prep at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Harvest Prep is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.4 points per game. Dunbar will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ponitz Career Tech at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
