The Great Valley Patriots will square off against the Unionville Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Great Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Henderson 12-10. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Great Valley got a massive performance out of Mia Carr, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. Carr also scored two runs, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lily Mattison, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Great Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Unionville hadn't done well against Henderson recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Longhorns blew past the Warriors 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Brown spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Addison Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Brun, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Great Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Unionville, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Great Valley might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Unionville in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
