The Millbrook Pioneers will square off against the Brentsville District Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Millbrook turned things around against Liberty on Tuesday. They skirted past the Eagles 14-13. Considering the Pioneers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brentsville District). They were the clear victors by a 28-1 margin over Handley on Tuesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Judges recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Alyssa Owens made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Owens was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brentsville District got a massive performance out of Jordan Ulrich, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, six RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Ulrich a new career-high. Natalie Marvin was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs.
Brentsville District kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Brentsville District's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Millbrook, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Millbrook was able to grind out a solid victory over Brentsville District in their previous meeting back in March, winning 7-2. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
