Basketball Recap: Roanoke Valley Christian Takes a Loss

Roanoke Valley Christian was the 49-34 winner over Faith Christian when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES took a 44-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Faith Christian Warriors on Saturday. The EAGLES have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Defeat or not, Roanoke Valley Christian got some senior leadership from Logan Gutierrez and Luke Somers. Gutierrez dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards, while Somers posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gutierrez has scored all season.

Faith Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Burton led the charge by putting up 16 points and six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Burton has scored at least a third of Faith Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Whitmore, who put up 11 points and five rebounds.

Roanoke Valley Christian's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for Faith Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Christian Heritage Academy the next time they take the court. Roanoke Valley Christian will host Christian Heritage Academy at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, while Faith Christian will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
