Meanwhile, Canton came tearing into Wednesday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Ridgeland by a score of 51-40. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Ridgeland is ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shamira Morton was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 24 rebounds. The match was her 13th in a row with at least ten points. Na'Miya Davis was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Yazoo County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Canton, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Yazoo County came up short against Canton in their previous matchup on December 12th, falling 45-41. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Morton, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten rebounds, and ten blocks.
