The Judson Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Steele Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Judson was fully in charge, breezing past San Marcos 48-16 on the road. Given Judson's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 218th, while San Marcos is ranked 766th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Judson can attribute much of their success to Nathaniel Stanley, who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries, and Elijah Favela, who threw for 281 yards and four touchdowns. Kenyon Smith did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 105 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Steele entered their tilt with East Central with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Everything went Steele's way against East Central last Thursday as Steele made off with a 52-28 victory. The result was nothing new for Steele, who have now won six matches by 24 points or more so far this season.
Chad Warner was his usual excellent self, throwing for 300 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes. Avion Fareaux was another key contributor, gaining 118 total yards and two touchdowns.
Steele's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Abdon Mata and Jaylan Jones who racked up four sacks between them.
Judson's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Steele, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1.
Judson couldn't quite finish off Steele in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 and fell 38-36. Thankfully for Judson, Jaydon Bailey (who rushed for 212 yards and five touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
