The Palmyra Cougars were the 53-39 winner over the Pottsville Crimson Tide when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Palmyra took a 50-35 bruising from Pottsville on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Palmyra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 580th, while Pottsville is ranked 172nd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pottsville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Alvarez, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Letrel Montone, who scored 15 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Palmyra and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Pottsville, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Palmyra will head out on the road to take on Lower Dauphin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lower Dauphin will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Pottsville, Pottsville and Panther Valley will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Panther Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
