The Evansville Memorial Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the North Harrison Cougars at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Evansville Memorial has six straight wins, North Harrison has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Evansville Memorial beat Evansville North 60-54. Given Evansville Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Evansville North is ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Evansville Memorial found their leader in underclassman Rylee Canaan, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Canaan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Myla Browning, who scored 11 points along with six assists.
Meanwhile, North Harrison ended up a good deal behind Corydon Central on Tuesday and lost 43-27. North Harrison has not had much luck with Corydon Central recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, North Harrison had strong showings from Grace Goldman, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds, and Olivia Brown, who scored eight points.
Evansville Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for North Harrison, they bumped their record down to 5-14 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Evansville Memorial strolled past North Harrison in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 66-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Evansville Memorial since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
