The Davis Darts will challenge the Lehi Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Davis is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Everything went their way against Herriman as they made off with an 8-2 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Darts sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Lincoln Green looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Garrett, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Baggett, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Davis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Lehi faced Pleasant Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Pioneers were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Vikings. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pioneers.
Lehi also got a great performance from Tj Peterson as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Peterson also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Pioneers are 6-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 10-11 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Ozzie Williams was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Brandon Manookin was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI.
Davis' record now sits at 22-6. As for Lehi, their record is now 16-13.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Davis hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lehi struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Davis came up short against Lehi in their previous meeting back in May of 2016, falling 7-3. Can the Darts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
