The University Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Highland Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully University focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
University fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Peak to Peak but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pumas by a score of 74-72. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for University in their matchups with Peak to Peak: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, University had strong showings from Gage Schminke, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 10 rebounds, and Connor Weber, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. Weber scored a full 33.3% of University's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Caden Villarreal, who scored 5 points along with 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Highland took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (and then some). They put the hurt on SkyView Academy with a sharp 66-46 win. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Highland did.
Highland relied on the efforts of Carson Steinke, who scored 22 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and Sawyer Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brogan Palmer , who scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds.
University's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Highland, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
University didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Highland when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 68-63 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for University since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
