After a string of five wins, the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 54-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Douglas. The match was a 24-24 toss-up at halftime, but Mica Mountain was outscored by Douglas in the second.
Isabella Webb and Kayla Mathie certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Webb dropped a double-double on 19 points and 23 rebounds, while Mathie scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mathie has scored all season.
It was another big night for Francia Rubio, who scored 23 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds for Douglas. Rubio has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Scarlette Ruiz was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mica Mountain's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-7. As for Douglas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.
Mica Mountain will head out on the road to challenge Rio Rico at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rio Rico is on a four-game streak of home wins, Mica Mountain a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Douglas will take on Amphitheater at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Amphitheater is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
