If the Concord Academy Eagles were riding high off their 59-35 takedown of the Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Concord Academy took a 60-45 bruising from Northside Christian Academy on Friday. While losing is never fun, Concord Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Northside Christian Academy is ranked 20th).
Concord Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Alek Kornacki, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Sherod McCormick, who scored six points.
It was another big night for Kyrell Shaw, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds for Northside Christian Academy. Shaw has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Arael Jones was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Concord Academy's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 10-13. As for Northside Christian Academy, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-6.
Concord Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hickory Grove Christian at 7:00 p.m. Hickory Grove Christian has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. Northside Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Fayetteville Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Fayetteville Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 73.5 points per game.
