Elmwood is 7-2 against Van Buren since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Elmwood Royals will head out on the road to take on the Van Buren Black Knights at 7:30 p.m. Elmwood is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 12-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Monday, things could have been worse for Elmwood, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 45-30 loss to Carey. While losing is never fun, Elmwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 655th, while Carey is ranked 122nd).
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Van Buren had to settle for a 36-34 loss against Arlington on Thursday. Van Buren has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Elmwood has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season. As for Van Buren, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
Elmwood ended up a good deal behind Van Buren in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, losing 52-33. Can Elmwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
