This season hasn't been kind to the Maryvale Panthers, who are still winless after their seventh match. They took a serious blow against Red Mountain on Monday, falling 66-8. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Maryvale has scored all season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Maryvale struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Red Mountain racked up 19 assists.
Makaia Jenkins was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with five steals for Red Mountain. Jenkins is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Macy Johnson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Maryvale bumped their record down to 0-7 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Red Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maryvale will take on North at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. North is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Red Mountain, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gila Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gila Ridge has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
