The Floydada Whirlwinds will head out on the road to take on the Sunray Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Floydada made easy work of Muleshoe and carried off an 8-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Whirlwinds.
Floydada secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Madison Pyle, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was Pyle's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Sunray waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Hornets 23-13. The Bobcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Wynn Boatmun was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with seven stolen bases and four runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Gonzalez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Sunray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .739. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Floydada's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Sunray, their record now sits at 8-3.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floydada hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. However, it's not like Sunray struggles in that department as they've averaged .493. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Floydada was able to grind out a solid victory over Sunray in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, winning 9-5. Will the Whirlwinds repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
