Oneida is 8-2 against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Oneida Express will be playing at home against the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. Oneida is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Oneida ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 50-45 victory over Rome Free Academy. Given Oneida's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Rome Free Academy is ranked 157th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill posted their closest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-52 victory over Holland Patent. The win was just what Vernon-Verona-Sherrill needed coming off of a 46-26 defeat in their prior contest.
Oneida's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season.
Everything went Oneida's way against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as Oneida made off with a 42-18 victory. Will Oneida repeat their success, or does Vernon-Verona-Sherrill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
