Basketball Recap: Marian Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Marian had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.6 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-36 win over the Beaumont United Timberwolves. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 58-54 loss the last time these two teams met.

Marian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mathias Baye led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 25 boards. Baye has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 32 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ehud Tesfaye, who posted 11 points and seven assists.

Marian was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaumont United only racked up eight assists.

Several Timberwolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brandon Maxson, who put up nine points and six rebounds. Malachi Anderson was another key player, putting up five points and nine rebounds.

Marian's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Beaumont United, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-3.

Marian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 70-57 win against LaGrange on the 13th. As for Beaumont United, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-34 victory against Southside on the 13th.
