The Choctaw Central Warriors came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They rang in the new year with a 71-64 victory over Northeast Lauderdale. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Northeast Lauderdale still got an impressive performance from Troy Brown, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds. Brown set a new season high mark in assists with six. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Clark, who scored eight points along with six assists.
Choctaw Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5-1 record this season. As for Northeast Lauderdale, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Choctaw Central will take on Newton County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Newton County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Choctaw Central is ranked 12th). As for Northeast Lauderdale, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Leake Central at 7:30 p.m.
