South Garner has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Clayton Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Garner has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 294 points over their last five contests.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 8 on the offensive boards, a fact South Garner proved on Monday. Everything went their way against Knightdale as South Garner made off with a 59-38 victory. Given South Garner's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Knightdale is ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Garner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tamia Darden, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Moore, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Clayton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Willow Spring, falling 74-6. Clayton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-3.
South Garner's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. As for Clayton, they have fallen quite a ways from their 20-10 record last season and are now at 2-4.
South Garner took a serious blow against Clayton when the teams last played back in February, falling 67-21. Can South Garner avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
