Northeast Guilford has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Rockingham County Cougars at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Northeast Guilford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
Northeast Guilford pushed their score all the way to 59, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-59 to Atkins. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (55), Northeast Guilford still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Northeast Guilford saw an underclassman step up: Zayvion Mixon scored 17 points along with three steals. Levi Webb was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Even though they lost, Northeast Guilford were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. This was only their tenth loss (out of 15 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 91-46, which was the final score in Rockingham County's tilt against Dudley on Friday. While losing is never fun, Rockingham County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Dudley is ranked 122nd).
Northeast Guilford has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Rockingham County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.
Northeast Guilford came out on top in a nail-biter against Rockingham County in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 64-61. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northeast Guilford since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
