The Rockledge Raiders scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Merritt Island at home to the tune of 64-23. The win was some much needed relief for Rockledge as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
It was another big night for Jaida Williams-Goins, who almost dropped a double-double on 40 points and nine steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Rockledge's points. Danica Smith was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Merritt Island lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ada Daniels. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Daniels is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Jaliah Jones, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Rockledge's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13. As for Merritt Island, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
Rockledge will head out on the road to face off against the Brahmans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Okeechobee is ranked 408th, while the Raiders are ranked 422nd). As for Merritt Island, they will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Port St. Lucie is no doubt hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses.
