The Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 63-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mary Star of the Sea. While losing is never fun, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 847th, while Mary Star of the Sea is ranked 340th).
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donovan Desha, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Diego Boardman, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary bumped their record down to 8-11 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Mary Star of the Sea, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary will take on Verbum Dei Jesuit at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mary Star of the Sea, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against La Salle at 7:00 p.m.
