Meanwhile, Dayspring Christian Academy came tearing into Monday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Tigers.
Gage Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Josiah Rodriguez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, one stolen base, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Vaniddekinge, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Dayspring Christian Academy pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Sedgwick County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sedgwick County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Dayspring Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
