Basketball Recap: Broughton Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jane Kern and Jamiyah Allen

If Broughton was feeling good fresh off their 58-21 takedown of East Chapel Hill last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Broughton Capitals fell 43-36 to the Leesville Road Pride on Tuesday. The Capitals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pride from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Broughton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jamiyah Allen, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards, and Jane Kern, who posted 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those eight boards gave Kern a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kendall Walpole, who had ten points.

Molly Zuburg was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine assists for Leesville Road. Zuburg has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Finley Lewis was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Broughton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Leesville Road, they pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Broughton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 42-37 win against Wake Forest on the 15th. Leesville Road has also already played their next match, a 74-42 victory against Cardinal Gibbons on the 17th.
