Aquinas dropped down to 11-6 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 17-6 to the Laurel Gators. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-5 back in March.
AyraBella Bacorn made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Ariana Nelson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
As for Laurel, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games.
On Laurel's side, Brooke Barragate was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Barragate was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kemy Cistone, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Vigh, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Looking ahead, Aquinas will be playing in front of their home fans against Central Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Comets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.67 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Laurel, they will head out on the road to take on Crestwood at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
