The Van Wert Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Wapakoneta Redskins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Van Wert 2.9, Wapakoneta 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, it was close, but Van Wert sidestepped Crestview for a 2-1 victory.
Van Wert's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Case Stegaman, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Wapakoneta strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Lima Senior. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Jarrett Mullen and Caleb Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Mullen tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Miller pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Mullen got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Miller went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grant Jolly, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joel Moore, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Wapakoneta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lima Senior only posted an OBP of .286.
Wapakoneta's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Van Wert, their record now sits at 5-3.
