The Nuniwarmiut Herders had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They suffered a rough 61-38 defeat at the hands of Chaputnguak. Nuniwarmiut has not had much luck with Chaputnguak recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Nuniwarmiut still got an impressive performance from Ethan Williams, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Hendrickson, who scored eight points.
Ashton Matthew continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chaputnguak, scoring 23 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Matthew has scored at least a third of Chaputnguak's points. Felagai Laumea was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Nuniwarmiut's loss was their third straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-1. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.3 points per game. As for Chaputnguak, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.
Coincidentally, Nuniwarmiut and Chaputnguak will both be playing Nelson Island the next time they take the court. Chaputnguak will host Nelson Island at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, while Nuniwarmiut will host them at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday.
