Groves is 2-8 against Johnson since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Groves Rebels are on the road again and plays the Johnson Atomsmashers at 7:30 a.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Groves focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Groves was able to grind out a solid win over Savannah Christian, taking the game 51-39.
Groves' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyrone Chisholm led the charge by scoring 14 points along with two steals. Chisholm hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sidney Flaggs, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Johnson earned a 49-38 victory over Liberty County on Tuesday.
The victory got Groves back to even at 12-12. As for Johnson, they pushed their record up to 14-10 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Groves won a match that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January, slipping by Johnson 65-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Groves since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
