Salem moved up to 463 from 494 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Apollo. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Freeburg 30-6.
Charleston extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Highland, 46-21. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Trojans.
Mt. Zion's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sam Olson threw for 244 and two touchdowns and Tyler Hayes had 172 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Ray chipped in 227 yards. Ray helped Mt. Zion's passing attack out by catching two balls for 62 yards.
Charleston's Sean Hussey and Truston Winnett have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hussey has thrown for 1893 yards this season, while Winnett, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 39 catches for 805 yards. The Braves' Ray leads the league in rushing yards with 1806.
Going into this week's game against Central Catholic, Brian Halsey's team's Hussey needs 107 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
The Trojans took down the Bulldogs 46-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hussey threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 28 yards in the win.
