Rossville and Delphi Community are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Oracles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rossville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Rossville barely beat Eastern the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hornets put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 9-2 victory on Wednesday. Nine seems to be a good number for the Hornets as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Eli Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rossville got a big performance out of Evan Mcdonald, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Mcdonald has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zac Wainscott, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Delphi Community waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Comets by a score of 9-6.
Brett Huffman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Delphi Community is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Huffman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xaine Tessier, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Noah Hutsell was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Rossville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Delphi Community, they pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rossville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Delphi Community struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rossville skirted past Delphi Community 4-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Oracles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
