The Richard Montgomery Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Churchill Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Richard Montgomery has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Churchill will arrive with five straight wins.
Richard Montgomery pushed their score all the way to 37 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 48-37 to Gaithersburg.
Anthony Dixon jr put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns. Dixon jr is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last four games he's played. Khalil Wilson also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Churchill was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Walter Johnson 32-30.
David Avit was his usual excellent self, rushing for 248 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also picking up 56 receiving yards. Avit's longest rush was for an incredible 81 yards.
Richard Montgomery's defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-0 Quince Orchard and 7-2 Walter Johnson (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76% over those games). As for Churchill, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Richard Montgomery ended up a good deal behind Churchill when the teams last played two weeks ago, losing 64-50. Can Richard Montgomery avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
