The Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints are taking a road trip to square off against the Norwell Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Monday, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger was able to grind out a solid victory over Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, taking the game 9-4.
The team relied heavily on Brooklyn Baker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Nees, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Norwell fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against DeKalb on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Barons by a score of 7-6.
Kayla Watkins spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Reese Frauhiger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Mia Kurtz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Norwell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Norwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger skirted past Norwell 5-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
