The Peoria Panthers won the last time they faced the Copper Canyon Aztecs, and things went their way on Friday too. Peoria simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Copper Canyon 52-25 on the road. Given Peoria's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Copper Canyon is ranked 123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peoria can attribute much of their success to Michelle Kogbara, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Kogbara has scored at least 25% of Peoria's points. Another player making a difference was De?Miyah Petty, who scored 9 points along with 6 steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Peoria and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Copper Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Peoria will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Desert Edge at 1:30 p.m. on November 24th. As for Copper Canyon, they will square off against Catalina Foothills at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Catalina Foothills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Friday.
