The Cuero Gobblers put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Smithville 69-28 at home. The result was nothing new for Cuero, who have now won seven matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
Cuero was led to victory by Dayton Varela and Mason Notaro. Varela picked up 120 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Notaro threw for 253 yards and six touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. Notaro hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Kenneth Jackson was another key contributor, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Cuero's win was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.6 points. As for Smithville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cuero will take on La Grange at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. La Grange will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 699th, while Cuero is ranked 78th). As for Smithville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Caldwell at 7:30 p.m. Caldwell comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
