The Merrillville Pirates had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 80-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Bend Riley on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Merrillville had strong showings from Jaeden Williams, who scored 17 points along with 8 assists and 4 steals, and Shaun Clemons, who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Dilosa, who scored 9 points.
Merrillville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for South Bend Riley, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Merrillville will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hammond Morton at 7:00 p.m. Hammond Morton comes in still looking for their first win of the season. South Bend Riley will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Northridge at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Northridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 99th, while South Bend Riley is ranked 19th).
