West Prairie is 1-7 against Havana since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the West Prairie Cyclones will head out on the road to face off against the Havana Ducks at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. West Prairie is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 23-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
On Tuesday, West Prairie lost to Rushville-Industry at home by a decisive 63-47 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Prairie in their matchups with Rushville-Industry: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, West Prairie saw an underclassman step up: Braden Coplan scored 26 points. That was a full 55.3% of West Prairie's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Matt Whitman, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Havana had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Cuba/Spoon River Valley by a score of 36-28 on Friday. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but Havana was the better team in the second half.
West Prairie has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-22 record this season. As for Havana, their win bumped their record up to 6-17.
West Prairie took a serious blow against Havana in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 70-43. Can West Prairie avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
