The Sherrard Tigers entered their tilt with the Monmouth-Roseville Titans with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Sherrard walked away with a 50-39 win over Monmouth-Roseville on Friday. Given Sherrard's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Monmouth-Roseville is ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Titans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nico Avendano, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and six steals. Another player making a difference was Ayden Almaguer, who scored 14 points.
Monmouth-Roseville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sherrard has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Monmouth-Roseville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sherrard will take on Manual at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monmouth-Roseville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Macomb at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Macomb and Monmouth-Roseville are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
