Football Recap: Minersville's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road + How To Watch

Minersville dropped to 3-2 on Thursday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes. While the Battlin' Miners had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Hurricanes 7-0.

When it comes to explaining why Minersville lost, don't look at Dante Carr. Despite the final result, he rushed for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 215 yards and two TDs. Carr's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 143 rushing yards. A healthy portion of Carr's aerial production (89 yards to be exact) went to Ty Atkinson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Minersville, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Paiten Lapoint, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

As for Schuylkill Haven, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points over those games.

Schuylkill Haven's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Colton Reber, who rushed for 353 yards and four scores while picking up 11.4 yards per carry. Reber was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Niko Castillo also helped out as he racked up 134 rushing yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Minersville will square off against Marian Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on the 27th. Marian Catholic's defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so Minersville's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Schuylkill Haven, they will challenge Williams Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Hurricanes 14.2, the Vikings 10) so any points scored will be well earned.
