The Combs Coyotes pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Cortez 64-58. Combs was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cortez apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Despite the loss, Combs still got an impressive performance from Jae Lujan, who scored 23 points along with 6 rebounds. Logan Tuckfield was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Even though they lost, Combs were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cortez only pulled down 20.
Cortez got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tylin Hunter out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Devan Fowler, who scored 14 points along with 5 assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Combs and nudges their season record down to 5-2. As for Cortez, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Combs will take on Estrella Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cortez, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Prescott at 7:00 p.m. Prescott has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 348 points over their last five matches.
