The Coronado Islanders will head out to challenge the Madison Warhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
While Coronado's victory against Lincoln wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Islanders had just enough and edged out the Hornets 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Islanders in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won eight in a row.
Tatum Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Natalie Fay, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Samantha Aldworth, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Morse hit Madison with a five-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warhawks fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warhawks have suffered since March 27th.
Aniyah Shelby (2029) was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Shelby (2029) was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Shelby (2029) wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Rosas (2029), who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Coronado's victory bumped their record up to 15-7-1. As for Madison, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8-1.
Coronado was able to grind out a solid win over Madison in their previous matchup two weeks ago, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Islanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
