Softball Recap: Dayton Comes Up Short

Dayton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fernley Vaqueros. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vaqueros this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-3 defeat on Saturday.

LaSade Conti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alisi Tulimafua-Curran was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Sofia Ramirez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Dayton's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Fernley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Dayton will be taking part in a tournament against University Prep at 3:40 p.m. on Friday. As for Fernley, they will be playing at home against Churchill County at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vaqueros' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greenwave have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
