The Farmington Falcons will square off against the University of Detroit Jesuit Cubs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Farmington needed a bit of extra time to put away Cass Tech. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Technicians, sneaking past 7-6. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by just one run.
Brady Irvin looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Vincent Pesci was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 11 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter O'Driscoll, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Farmington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, University of Detroit Jesuit made sure to put some runs up on the board against Royal Oak on Thursday. The Cubs put the hurt on the Ravens with a sharp 11-2 win. The Cubs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14th (when they won 11-1).
The team relied heavily on Tommy O'Shea, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Noah Habel, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
The victory made it two in a row for Farmington and bumps their season record up to 8-23. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for University of Detroit Jesuit, their win bumped their record up to 5-16.
Farmington's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for University of Detroit Jesuit, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Farmington continue to outrun the ball?
