The Caldwell Bluejays's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 61-37 walloping at the hands of Oxford. While losing is never fun, Caldwell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 118th).
Despite the loss, Caldwell still got an impressive performance from Jackson Risley, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 48.6% of Caldwell's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mak Blosser, who scored eight points.
It was another big night for Cayden Carpenter, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds and two blocks for Oxford. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carpenter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cordell Jordan, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Caldwell has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Oxford, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caldwell will face off against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Flinthills is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Oxford, they will head out on the road to challenge the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully West Elk focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Tuesday.
