Morris has gone a perfect 10-0 against Plano recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Redskins will face off against the Reapers at 4:30 p.m. Morris is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Morris will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Sycamore, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Redskins sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Spartans on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Redskins have posted since March 22nd.
Mylie Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addy Hackett, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Plano can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Yorkville Christian, sneaking past 2-1.
Plano also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Chesney Schimandle gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Lindsey Cocks was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Morris' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Plano, their victory bumped their record up to 7-19-1.
Plano's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Morris has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Plano, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Morris keep running through batters, or will the Reapers buck the trend?
Everything went Morris' way against Plano in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Morris made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
