Baseball Recap: Lapel Makes It Seven in a Row on the Road

Lapel waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Elwood Panthers. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

Darl Gustin was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Newman, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.

Lapel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in three consecutive games.

Lapel's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. As for Elwood, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lapel will square off against Tipton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.15 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Elwood, they will face off against Frankton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
