Softball Recap: Tombstone Wins Going Away Against Willcox

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Tombstone and Willcox have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Yellow Jackets blew past the Cowboys 20-10. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by eight runs or more this season.

Kyla Gross and Bria Gross made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Gross didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Bria tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. At bat, Gross got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Bria went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Hayden Dobbins was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Liliana Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Tombstone lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Tombstone now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Willcox, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-9.

Tombstone does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Willcox, they will head out on the road to challenge Miami at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
