The Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against Carle Place by a score of 49-36.
Despite the loss, Carle Place still got an impressive performance from Caitlin Leary, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Leary scored a full 61.1% of Carle Place's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Selhorn, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
Kellenberg Memorial's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Carle Place, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kellenberg Memorial will take on St. Joseph Hill Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Carle Place, they will be playing at home against Long Beach at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
