The Benicia Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Northgate Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Benicia fought the good fight in their overtime contest against College Park on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Falcons 26-20.
Despite their defeat, Benicia saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Myles Cooper, who picked up 22 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Daniel Valdez, who picked up 120 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Northgate was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 28-17 win over Alhambra. The win made it back-to-back wins for Northgate.
Northgate's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jake Berger, who gained 138 total yards and two touchdowns, and Ben Hosler, who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Hosler really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run.
College Park's victory bumped their season record to 3-6 while Benicia's defeat dropped theirs to 2-7.
Benicia couldn't quite finish off Northgate when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 9-7. Can Benicia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
